LA Roundup: Former Trojan Heads to the SEC, Chargers Dropping Hints at Who May Start Week 1, Patrick Beverly Slams the NBA, and More!
What started out as rumor early in the morning turned to fact by afternoon. Former USC quarterback, JT Daniels, committed to play for Georgia in 2021 after he completes his time of ineligibility. Daniels was once considered the top quarterback prospect in the country and could still live up to the hype. Either way, the Trojans have a Heisman contender of their own in Slovis, so they won’t be too upset about the news.
Speaking of quarterbacks, the Chargers have a decision of their own to make. Drafting Justin Herbert with the 6th pick sets up their future, but what about this coming season? Based on quotes from various members of the team, they seem content with giving Taylor the reigns for now. The moment that Herbert shows he’s ready, though, watch out.
The Chargers also had an ex-player poke a little fun at them recently. Former running back, Melvin Gordon, called out the lack of fans at his games in LA when asked about he would feel playing in an empty stadium. Fair or not, that is the reputation that their fans have received after their time in LA, and Gordon was quick to address it. This season may change that narrative, however.
The Clippers‘ players have been rather silent throughout this pandemic, choosing to focus their energy on staying ready. However, Patrick Beverly has had enough of the guessing games. The LA role player wants to return to action as much as anyone else, but he wants the league to be transparent about what’s going on. With all of the risks that the players would take in restarting the season, he has reason to be upset with the league. These are things that will hopefully be ironed out by the league and the players union before too long.
The Dodgers have certainly done their part in helping a hurting community, and they continued that Thursday morning. The team partnered with its foundation and the Salvation Army to distribute meals and needed supplies to those in need, giving out 40,000 meals. Good on them for giving back to a community that has shown them nothing but love over the years.
