Chargers News: Former Running Back Melvin Gordon Takes Shot at Old Team

Last season didn’t pan out that well for Melvin Gordon, as he sat out a good portion of 2019 amid disputes with the team over a contract extension. Once the season was over and he was free to walk via free agency, his market didn’t develop as he had hoped.

Looking for a big payday while still in his prime, Gordon instead had to settle for a two year deal with the Chargers’ division rival, the Denver Broncos. It was clear in an interview with Marcus Cromartie that there were still some unresolved feelings. When asked how he felt about the possibility of playing in a stadium without fans, he used the opportunity to take a shot at his former team.

“Bro, we didn’t have fans anyway. I’ll be honest, we didn’t have many Chargers fans at the game. Much loyalty and love, but we didn’t have many, so I’m not missing anything.”

Gordon may be saying this now, but with a team that the Chargers have this year, he may be regretting his words. The Chargers added to an already dangerous defense featuring Joey Bosa, Derwin James, and Melvin Ingram III. They also have the weapons on offense in the trio of Keenan Allen, Mike Williams, and Austin Ekeler as well as a healthy Hunter Henry to get the job done. While Tyrod Taylor may not be fans’ first choice and Justin Herbert is untested in the NFL, the two may have what it takes to help make some noise in the AFC West and at least secure a playoff berth.
