LA Roundup: Dodgers Make Their First Round Pick, USC Reconnects with Some Familiar Faces, Bruins Find Their Future RB, and More!

Wednesday was filled with college headlines, but we’ll begin with the breaking news first.

The Dodgers made their first selection in the 2020 MLB Draft, and they got a stud. Bobby Miller, a RHP out of Louisville, has the makings of a future frontline starter at best and a dominant backend reliever at worst. There are too many things to say about him, so if you want the full breakdown of who LA’s newest member is, go check out the full story! For now, we’ll just say he led his team to the College World Series with a no-hitter through 8 innings in 2019.

UCLA made another stride in the right direction with a commitment from 3-Star running back, Deshun Murrell. Murrell chose the Bruins over a dozen other schools, all without ever visiting the campus. This speaks to the level of confidence he has in the program and coaching staff, a staff that could use a little support after the past few seasons. UCLA still has a lot of ground to make up in a deep Pac-12, but they are trending in the right direction.

USC made the most noise Wednesday, as they welcomed back two iconic players after some unintended social distancing for the last decade. OJ Mayo and Reggie Bush left their mark while at USC, in good ways and bad. Both players were casualties of investigations that determined illegal benefits were given to them while at the school, leading to bans for both along with stripped awards. Fans have been clamoring for years to allow them back into the good graces of the school, but there wasn’t much that USC could do. Now that the bans are over, Mayo and Bush have been welcomed back with open arms.
