UCLA News: Bruins Gain Commitment from 3-Star RB Deshun Murrell

UCLA has started to pick up the slack by picking up three recruits over the past week. They received commitments from 3-Star dual QB Kajiya Hollawayne, 3-star WR Ezavier Staples, and now 3-Star RB Deshun Murrell. The Alabama native released a video on Youtube earlier today that discusses his journey to this point such as working three jobs to help his family as well as to announce his choice of attending UCLA.

While deciding what school would be the best overall fit for him academically as well as to form him into a better Christian, Murrell passed up offers from North Carolina State, Virginia Tech, Kansas State, and over a dozen other schools. It’s quite interesting that he also did so without ever having seen the campus and interacted with anyone from the program in person.

When asked about why he eventually chose to attend UCLA, Murell had this to say:

“I didn’t want to miss the opportunity to have a life-changing experience. it’s the No. 1 public school in America, and I can see myself in the Pac-12. I want to experience a different lifestyle.”

Murrell is referencing the obstacles and journey that he has had to endure to get to this point in his life that are detailed in his commitment video.

During his junior season in high school, the 5’11, 185-pound running back recorded 2,275 yards and 34 touchdowns. With the recent success of former running back Joshua Kelley who was a 2-Star running back prospect coming out of high school, the sky’s the limit for the young Deshun Murrell. Murrell marks just the 8th prospect in the 2021 recruiting class that still has a lot of catching up to do.
