LAFC News: Brian Rodríguez Could Be Leaving the Black and Gold

2020 was sadly not the year for the Black and Gold to win it all as they were defeated in the MLS playoffs by the Seattle Sounders yet again. They also suffered another devastating loss to Tigres UANL in the Concacaf Champions League finals. However, the club has been getting injections of young players added to their ranks to give hope for the future.

One of those players was forward Brian Rodríguez who has scored two goals with 7 assists in 26 matches for LAFC. He stepped in for the club this past season when Carlos Vela went down with a knee injury. Rodríguez still has another year and a half left on his current contract with the club, though rumors have surfaced yet again about him going to Europe.

During an interview with Radio Sport 890 AM, the 20-year old Uruguayan discussed his future.

“My wish is to go to Europe that is why I am training double sessions because I see myself in Europe. I think the Spanish league would be ideal for my style of play because there is more space. For the moment, my agent has not mentioned to me any interest from a particular team”.

He also mentioned that he would not travel back to the United States until his agent and the club resolve an issue. Last May, Unione Calcio Sampdoria in Italy was said to be interested, yet nothing came to fruition.

If Rodríguez does end up leaving LAFC sometime soon, then the club has more than enough talent to replace him. They obviously have Vela and Diego Rossi on the outside and recently traded for Corey Baird who can play both up the center or on the outside as well. The young Christian Torres, Danny Musovski, and Kwadwo Opoku round out the position. They also recently drafted Danny Trejo in the 2021 MLS SuperDraft. No matter the outcome, LAFC’s offense should be just fine.
