Happy Memorial Day everyone! Today was a day for up Laker headlines for a change.
It was recently announced that the NBA Hall of Fame is considering a postponement of its induction ceremony for this year. Due to the coronavirus pandemic, many events have been halted, and this one is no different. Nothing is set in stone just yet, but Laker fans may have to wait a little longer to see Kobe Bryant in his rightful place.
Lakers’ owner, Jeanie Buss, also talked about the late Kobe Bryant on a recent podcast appearance. She has apparently had him on her mind a lot recently and even revealed she has had a few dreams with him. To her, this is Kobe’s way of telling her that he’s okay and everything will be fine too. I think we can all share the sentiment that we are glad he is resting now.
The one major story of the holiday was the bombshell about the possible return of the NBA. ESPN analyst, Brian Windhorst, revealed on an episode of Get Up that the league may opt to jump straight into a playoff bracket upon its return. Not only this, but there is talk about a possible reseeding, one that could set up a potential LA-only finals. If the Lakers and Clippers were fighting it out for the actual title and not just the West, all eyes would be on the NBA for sure. While this would have to get voted upon (and would most likely fail to be approved), the fact that the league is considering this shows they want to boost their ratings with an epic return.
Legendary broadcaster, Vin Scully, also made his share of news on this Memorial Day. The former Dodger announcer made it clear that he misses the sport and can’t wait for it to return. He likened it to a ‘National Thermometer’, as it could measure the health of the nation. For Vin’s sake, let’s hope baseball comes back soon.
The Dodgers also did their part in honoring all of the fallen soldiers on this Memorial Day. They lit up the stadium in patriotic fashion as a sign of respect for all who served this country. Even if there are yet to be games played at Dodgers Stadium this year, this day was not going to pass without a salute. We hope you all had a fantastic holiday and are ready for the hopeful return of our National pastime!
