Lakers Sign Damian Jones to 10-Day Contract

The Lakers are in the midst of their worst stretch over the past two seasons, and Anthony Davis isn’t scheduled to return for another few weeks. With this in mind, it seems as if the team has looked to the buyout market for reinforcements.

After waiving guard Quinn Cook this past Wednesday, the Lakers are using the empty roster spot to bring in center Damian Jones.

The deal is only for a 10-day contract, essentially an audition to see if Jones is worth signing for the remainder of the season. Jones had been playing with the Phoenix Suns this season before also being waived on Wednesday afternoon. The backup big man was only averaging 1.6 points in his 6 minutes per game, but his presence on defense is what the Lakers will be banking on.

It’s no secret that LA has struggled without Anthony Davis on the floor, but this is still a championship-caliber team at full strength. The main priority should be on entering the playoffs at full strength while not falling behind in the seeding race. The addition of Jones should at least give the team another body to clog the paint when Marc Gasol is on the bench.
