Lakers News: Kyrie Irving Calls for Kobe Bryant to Become the New Logo of the NBA

A year ago today, the world came together to celebrate the lives of Kobe and Gigi Bryant. It was the perfect day to do so as 2/24 paid homage to the both of them as Kobe switched to No. 24 in the second half of his career with the Lakers and No. 2 was Gigi’s jersey number. Staples Center was filled with friends, family, and fans who all gathered to honor their legacy. On that day, you could just feel the pain surrounding the city of Los Angeles and around the world.

Fast forward a year later, and people are continuing the honoring of two individuals who were or would eventually influence the game of basketball. Brooklyn Nets star Kyrie Irving took to Instagram to advocate that the NBA honor Kobe in the greatest way possible. His call was for the NBA to change the league logo to represent the Black Mamba.

The current NBA logo holds a silhouette of former Laker Jerry West, even though the league had never officially come out and said it. While West was an influential player during his time on the court, it may be time to change things up. Kobe Bryant has certainly made his mark on the league and in the sports world as a whole with many athletes trying to tap into the Mamba mentality.
