Lakers: Shaq Explains His Appearance on Netflix’s Tiger King

It’s a strange time in sports history when you’re talking about Lakers’ legend Shaquille O’Neal‘s appearance on a wild Netflix documentary, but that’s where we are. After fans saw Shaq appear on Netflix’s wildly popular Tiger King, there were questions that started to pop up.

Mainly, Lakers fans wanted to know why Shaq would support a place like the GW Zoo. It was here that controversial zookeeper Joe Exotic caged hundreds of animals and was rumored to have not taken as good of care of them as animal rights activists would have preferred. Shaq had this to say about the appearance. He stopped at the zoo en route to play Oklahoma City a number of years ago.

On the way we see a sign that says ‘Tiger Sanctuary. So we go in there and it’s a beautiful place and the character that was there was Exotic Joe. We went back a couple times. Then we go back another time and we found out that he’s involved with all the stuff and then, actually, I stopped going. I had no idea all that stuff was going on.
Shaq must have realized how it looked when he saw himself in the documentary because he was quick to make it known that he did not support anything about that zoo.
People that know me, they know I’m righteous. I don’t harm tigers. I love tigers. I love white tigers. Do I put donations to these zoos to help these tigers out? I do it all the time.
Whatever the case, the Lakers legend is completely ready to disassociate himself with the controversial zoo.
