In a thrilling showdown last Saturday, USC Trojans wide receiver Brenden Rice faced off against his former team, the Colorado Buffaloes, under the new leadership of Coach Deion Sanders. USC emerged victorious with a score of 48-41, maintaining their perfect 5-0 record for the season.
Brenden Rice, standing at 6’3″ and weighing 210 pounds, is a senior who has been making a significant impact this season. With 17 receptions covering a total of 338 yards, he’s averaging an impressive 19.9 yards per catch. In addition to his impressive yardage, Rice has scored seven touchdowns, showcasing his incredible playmaking ability. His longest reception this season was a stunning 75-yard bomb.
Kayode Akinwumi from Sportskeeda reported that Brenden Rice chose to join USC because of the recruiting efforts of Coach Lincoln Riley. While it remains somewhat unclear why Rice initially left his previous team, it appears that the arrival of Coach Prime was not the primary reason for his departure. The decision to transfer led Rice to place his name in the NCAA’s Transfer Portal on New Year’s Eve in 2022.
In the recent matchup against the Buffaloes, Brenden Rice continued to shine. He made five receptions, amassing a total of 81 yards, with an average of 16.2 yards per catch. Rice’s exceptional performance included logging two touchdowns, demonstrating his value to the USC Trojans. It was a remarkable day’s work for the talented wide receiver.
“I get a couple other calls, but as soon as you heard Lincoln call, you just had to go,” Rice told 247Sports in an earlier interview, per Akinwumi. “Especially with like USC and its big name. ‘You gotta come. You have to.’ Man, it was quick. I was shocked.”
As USC Trojans’ impressive season continues, Brenden Rice’s contributions on the field have been instrumental in their success. With his exceptional skills and consistent performance, Rice is proving to be a key player under Coach Prime’s leadership. USC fans can undoubtedly look forward to more standout moments from this talented wide receiver in the games to come.
