USC Trojans Grateful for Caleb Williams’ Heroics in Win Against Arizona State
USC's Heisman Trophy Winner Delivers Stunning Performance
In a crucial matchup against Arizona State, the USC Trojans faced adversity without the services of their reigning Heisman Trophy winner, Caleb Williams. Had it not been for Williams’ absence, the Trojans might have found themselves puzzling over a loss. The Trojans’ defensive unit struggled, reverting to their previous shortcomings.
It was a collective underperformance by the entire team, but when it mattered most, Caleb Williams stepped up in spectacular fashion. With an impressive 322 yards passing and three touchdowns, Williams played a pivotal role in averting an upset against Arizona State.
Williams’ exceptional display underscored his immense value to the Trojans, keeping their dreams of an undefeated season alive. However, USC cannot solely rely on Williams to rescue them every time. To safeguard their season’s prospects, the Trojans must prevent finding themselves in such precarious situations again.
“Akin to cartoon characters who step on rakes or slip on banana peels, USC’s self-inflicted wounds piled up in missed tackles, dropped passes and basic procedure penalties before the No. 5 Trojans (4-0, 2-0 Pac-12 Conference) finally pulled away for a 42-28 win over Arizona State (1-3, 0-1 Pac-12) at Mountain America Stadium.”

Looking ahead, USC is set to travel to Boulder for a showdown against the Colorado Buffalos this weekend. To ensure a victory, the Trojans must approach the game with better preparation and execution. Colorado, eager to disrupt USC’s season, will be a formidable opponent, and the Trojans must be on top of their game.
“Playing a whole game for the first time this season, Williams helped USC stave off disaster by throwing two touchdown passes in the fourth quarter, finishing with 322 yards and three touchdowns on 20-of-31 passing with two more scores on the ground.”

For USC, shoring up their performance is imperative if they harbor aspirations of making it to the College Football Playoff. They should consider themselves fortunate that their opponent last weekend wasn’t a tougher challenge; otherwise, the outcome might have taken a different and less favorable turn.
