USC Women’s Volleyball Dominates Trojan Invitational with Stellar Performances
Women of Troy Triumph at the 2023 Trojan Invitational
The USC Women of Troy volleyball team had an outstanding weekend, hosting the 2023 Trojan Invitational at the Galen Center from Friday to Sunday. The event saw impressive turnouts, with a decade-high home crowd attendance of 3,314 fans, making it the third-largest overall audience ever.
On Friday, the Women of Troy faced off against the UC Davis Aggies and left no room for doubt, achieving a three-set sweep with scores of 25-19, 25-19, and 26-24. USC senior outside hitter Skylar Fields, standing at 6’2″, showcased her dominance with 15 kills and a remarkable .484 hitting conversion rate. Redshirt freshman Madison Pietsch, a 6’2″ opposite hitter, also made a significant contribution with 13 kills and one block, boasting a .321 hitting rate. USC maintained a comfortable 54-44 advantage in overall digs.
The momentum continued into Saturday when the Women of Troy faced Marist, marking the first-ever meeting between the two schools. USC secured another sweep with scores of 25-12, 25-15, and 25-17. Senior middle blocker Lindsey Miller, standing tall at 6’4″, had a standout performance, recording 11 kills with an impressive .667 hitting rate, along with one ace and two blocks.
Sunday saw Skylar Fields truly shine, earning the Trojan Invitational Tournament Most Outstanding Player crown in a remarkable performance against the University of San Diego Toreros. Fields recorded a staggering 28 kills on .350 hitting with 60 tries and contributed defensively with a block. Gala Trubint, a 5’8″ sophomore libero, made her presence felt with 20 digs, four assists, and two service aces. Graduate student opposite Kalyah Williams achieved a career-best with 13 kills and one block, playing a crucial role in USC’s nail-biting victory with scores of 25-20, 24-26, 25-19, and 25-23.
Notably, Lindsey Miller and Gala Trubint were both named to the all-tournament team, further highlighting the Women of Troy’s exceptional performance throughout the weekend.
USC women’s volleyball continues to maintain an impressive record at home, now standing at 196-54 all-time. With their remarkable victories at the 2023 Trojan Invitational, the Women of Troy have improved to a 4-4 record for the 2023-24 season.
