In the NFL’s thrilling opening weekend, several former USC Trojans showcased their talents on the grand stage, making their presence felt in the wide receiver ranks.
Three standout names emerged during these past few days, one of whom secured the honor of scoring the opening touchdown of the entire NFL season during a surprising win on Thursday night.
Amon-Ra St. Brown Shines in Opening Game
Amon-Ra St. Brown, the primary target for the resurgent Detroit Lions, left a lasting mark by dashing into the end zone from nine yards out. This pivotal moment was part of a highly productive performance that propelled his team to an impressive victory over the Kansas City Chiefs with a final score of 21-20.
St. Brown’s incredible journey as a former fourth-round pick continues to leave onlookers baffled as to how he slipped through the cracks during the 2021 NFL Draft. His tenacity and skill were on full display, and he once again demonstrated why he’s a force to be reckoned with in the NFL.
Minnesota Viking’s Rookie, Addison, Impresses in Debut
Over the weekend, another USC alum and former favorite target of Heisman winner Caleb Williams made his NFL debut with the Minnesota Vikings. Derrick Addison wasted no time in proving his worth, amassing 61 yards on four receptions, including a spectacular deep catch from nearly 40 yards out. His performance showcased the promise of a first-round draft pick.
Unfortunately, despite Addison’s impressive debut, the Vikings couldn’t secure a victory against the Buccaneers. Nevertheless, his standout performance was a testament to his potential as a valuable asset to the team.
Pittman Jr. Steps Up for the Colts
In Indianapolis, Michael Pittman Jr., unquestionably the top target on his team, displayed remarkable prowess. His chemistry with quarterback Anthony Richardson nearly propelled the Colts to victory, despite the absence of star running back Jonathan Taylor. Pittman Jr. racked up nearly 100 yards throughout the game, including a spectacular touchdown off a screenplay.
Despite Pittman Jr.’s incredible effort, the Colts fell short in their bid for victory. Nonetheless, his standout performance was a testament to his skills and dedication.
As we eagerly anticipate another national title run for USC in 2023, it’s heartening to witness these former Men of Troy excelling in the professional arena early in the NFL season. Their outstanding performances are a testament to the Trojan spirit and the bright future ahead for these talented athletes.
