DeMar DeRozan Dominates at Drew League, Reliving USC Days
Former Trojan Shines in Offseason Showcase
Former USC Trojan and current Chicago Bulls star DeMar DeRozan is making the most of his offseason by dominating at the Drew League. After a successful season with the Bulls, DeRozan is showcasing his talents in the popular rec league this summer.
In his recent game, the skilled forward put up an impressive performance, scoring 33 points and dishing out 8 assists, helping his team, the Cheaters, maintain their undefeated streak in the league. DeRozan’s trademark post moves, pump fakes, and mid-range expertise were on full display, leaving spectators in awe of his talent, much like what we’ve seen from him during regular NBA seasons.
DeRozan’s basketball journey began in his hometown of Compton, where he stood out as a star player in high school. His exceptional skills caught the attention of USC, where he played for one remarkable college season before entering the NBA. The Toronto Raptors drafted him as the 9th overall pick in the 2009 NBA draft.
Over the years, DeRozan’s game evolved, and by his fifth season, he was averaging 20 points per game for the first time, earning him his first All-Star selection. Alongside teammate Kyle Lowry, DeRozan played a pivotal role in bringing success back to the Raptors, leading the team to prominence after Vince Carter’s departure.
After a successful tenure with the Raptors, DeRozan was traded to the San Antonio Spurs in exchange for Kawhi Leonard. He continued to be a force to reckon with in San Antonio, showcasing his scoring prowess for three seasons. Despite his contributions, the team missed the playoffs in his final two seasons.
Chicago Bulls signed DeRozan after his stint with the Spurs, and some analysts criticized the contract as one of the worst of the summer. However, DeRozan proved his worth and quickly became a star in the league once again. His impressive performance in the 2022 season earned him an All-NBA mention and even garnered MVP consideration.
Although the Bulls narrowly missed the postseason last year, falling to Miami in a play-in game, DeRozan remains dedicated to his craft, continuing to impress on any court he steps on, including the famous Drew League.
