USC football recruiting: 4-star 2024 linebacker emerges as intriguing prospect

USC offered Naki Tuakoi a scholarship in late January

Class of 2024 Fremont Senior (Oakland, Calif.) linebacker Naki Tuakoi has emerged as one of the most intriguing defensive prospects on the west coast.

Tuakoi has sky-rocketed up the recruiting rankings going from an unranked prospect to a 4-star recruit on Rivals — and the college offers have flooded in accordingly.

When asked who was recruiting him the hardest, Tuakoi responded in an interview with SI All Trojans:

“It’s out of Oregon, they’re number one, and then Cal and then Notre Dame.”

USC offered Tuakoi a scholarship in late January. He’s mainly been in touch with Trojans inside linebackers coach Brian Odom.

“Me and Coach Odom, we’ve been talking and trying to establish that relationship,” he said. “He’s just been letting me know the standards and how college would be at USC. I’m really looking forward to taking a trip there some day pretty soon and getting to see their campus and catch up with Coach a little bit.”

Tuakoi said he has no visits currently scheduled, but he wants to go to two schools.

“Right now we’re just focusing on getting to USC and some other schools like BYU,” he said.

The past few months have been a whirlwind recruiting wise for the 6-foot-3, 220-pound ‘backer.

“I just never expected this to happen so quick,” he said. “Going into my junior year, I was thinking I’ll get my first offer by my senior year. I wasn’t expecting any big offers. I was expecting D1, but not D1 like this…I’m still feeling out the process. I haven’t been able to wrap my head around all of this yet.”

USC currently has one commit in its 2024 recruiting class, Lakeridge High School (Lake Oswego, Ore.) tight end Joey Olsen.
