What Andy Enfield said following USC men’s basketball’s 85-75 win over Stanford

The Trojans were lethal from three-point range connecting on 13 of 25 shots from beyond the arc

LOS ANGELES — USC kept its NCAA Tournament hopes alive with a convincing 85-75 win over Stanford on Saturday night. The Trojans were lethal from three-point range connecting on 13 of 25 shots from beyond the arc.

Boogie Ellis hit a team high six three-pointers. He finished with a career high 33 points and seven assists. Drew Peterson scored 21 points and Reese Dixon-Waters, who returned from injury after a four game absence, put in 12 points. USC center Josh Morgan also returned from injury after missing the last four games. He scored four points and grabbed three rebounds. Harrison Ingram scored 15 points to lead Stanford in defeat.

At 19-8 and 11-5 in the Pac-12, the Trojans are squarely on the NCAA Tournament bubble. Coming into Saturday, ESPN’s Joe Lunardi projected that USC will miss the tournament as one of the first four teams out. CBS analyst Jerry Palm’s latest prediction has the Trojans making the field as a No. 11 seed.

Stanford fell to 11-16 and 5-11 in the Pac 12. The Cardinal will need to win the Pac 12 tournament to make the NCAA Tournament.

Here’s what USC head coach Andy Enfield had to say following the Trojans’ victory.

On Stanford win:

“That’s a good win for our team. Stanford is playing very good basketball so this was a tough game for us. They just beat Arizona. They’ve been playing very well. Our players knew they had to come out with some energy. It’s nice to be home here on our home court where we’ve won 14 straight. I think our guys after getting down early in the game really turned it around on defense and started making shots. We’re pretty good when we make shots.”

On Stanford’s defense and Ellis’ career night:

“Stanford’s a tough team to score against so to score 85 against them you have to hit some shots. Boogie made some really good plays…It’s very impressive to score 33 points and have seven assists in the same game. That means he made the right decisions.”

USC returns to action on Thursday night on the road against Colorado. Tip off is at 6 pm.
