USC football: Caleb Williams discusses national championship goal, Heisman Trophy

In an interview with Sports Illustrated, Williams said he’d trade last year’s Heisman Trophy for a national title

Caleb Williams just wants to win.

In an interview with Sports Illustrated, USC’s quarterback said he’d trade last year’s Heisman Trophy for a national title.

“Championships are more important to me,” Williams said. “Being able to win something like that with the team and your brothers is way more special to me than being able to get a self accolade.”

Williams was also asked about the possibility of repeating as a Heisman winner, which only Archie Griffin has done in the history of the award.

“It’s something every year that’s more of a self goal before the season,” he said. “But during the season the goal is to go out there and try and win a national championship for USC and the guys…Hopefully I can achieve [winning a Heisman] again and be in New York with the other three guys.”

USC is 193 days out from its 2023 season opener against San Jose State. The Trojans will begin spring practice on March 4.
