USC men’s basketball: Tre White named Pac-12 Freshman of the Week

White scored 14 points in the Trojans’ 80-70 win over Washington State on Thursday and then followed up that performance with a career high 22 points in USC’s 80-74 victory over Washington on Saturday

For the second time this season, USC’s Tre White has been named the Pac-12’s Freshman of the Week. White scored 14 points in the Trojans’ 80-70 win over Washington State on Thursday and then followed up that performance with a career high 22 points in USC’s 80-74 victory over Washington on Saturday.

“He played a great game tonight,” USC head coach Andy Enfield said of White’s performance against Washington. “He was very aggressive offensively…I thought this was one of his best games, probably his best game.”

White was asked after his career night what’s led to his improvement offensively and the freshman responded:

“In a more broad sense, I feel like as a team we’ve gotten better. I feel like we’re so deadly like each player on the court can go off on any night. We’re learning how to play off of each other now so it can be anybody’s night. I’m still confident in my work. I’ve got the same routine. I just feel like we’re gelling together at the perfect time.”

He added: “I’m starting to see things before they happen. It’s just reps on reps…With all of these reps, I can now relax a little bit, play off of instincts and still be myself.”

The Trojans have won four straight. They’ll look to add to their win streak on Thursday night on the road against Oregon.

LOOKING AHEAD TO MARCH

USC currently sits in third place in the Pac-12 with a 9-3 conference record. There’s still work to be done, but the Trojans appear destined to make their third straight NCAA Tournament.

In CBS Sports analyst Jerry Palm’s most recent NCAA Tournament projections, USC is listed as an 8-seed going up against 9-seed New Mexico in Des Moines.
