USC Football: Trojans Land Tight End Lake McRee out of Texas

The names just keep rolling in. You can now add Tight End Lake McRee to the impressive haul for the Trojans, another 3 star player out of Texas. McRee took to Twitter to announce his decision Friday evening after a lot of anticipation from the football world.

McRee had offers from dozens of universities, including Alabama, LSU, Michigan State, Penn State, Texas, and Auburn. As the top-ranked tight end out of Texas, he has turned a lot of heads and was a real catch for the Trojans. Lake had previously committed to Texas but de-committed a few months ago, leaving an opening for USC to swoop in.

When asked what made the difference, McRee praised the coaching staff for their dedication and genuine interest in their players.

“You can’t make your decision just off coaches but you’re definitely not going to go somewhere where you don’t like the coach. Coach Baker definitely played a big role in why I went there and I think it really trending up just as a program and I think it’s going to be a really special place.”

Coach Helton and his staff have done an amazing job of turning around the culture and are finally reaping the benefits. The players themselves have been an active part of the recruitment process, and his new teammates were quick to welcome him after his announcement. QB Miller Moss, who declared earlier this week, was happy to have some more help on offense.

McRee’s ranking has dropped, due to an ACL injury that caused him to miss his junior season, but the potential for a 4-star player is still palpable with this kid. He has been putting in the work and looks healthy and ready to play once more.

The Trojans will be a fun team to watch in 2021, a season where they can firmly be considered National Title contenders.
