UCLA Bruins’ 2023-24 Basketball Schedule Packed with High-Stakes Games

UCLA faces a formidable 2023-24 schedule with top-ranked opponents in the mix.

In a season that could potentially be UCLA’s last in the Pac-12, the Bruins are gearing up for an explosive run. The 2023-24 schedule, recently unveiled, showcases an array of high-stakes games for Mick Cronin’s squad. With nearly half of their games slated for national television broadcasts on ESPN, CBS, or FOX, UCLA, as one of the most prominent names in college basketball, takes center stage.

The action begins on Halloween night (October 31) with an exhibition game against Cal State Dominguez Hills, followed swiftly by their official season opener against Saint Francis on November 6.

The real challenge, however, lies ahead:

Notable Games on UCLA’s Schedule:

  • Nov. 20: Marquette (Maui Invitational)
  • Nov. 21: Kansas/Chaminade (Maui Invitational)
  • Dec. 9: at Villanova
  • Dec. 16: Ohio State (CBS Sports Classic)
  • Dec. 22: Maryland
  • Dec. 30: at Oregon
  • Jan. 20: at Arizona
  • Jan. 27: at USC
  • Feb. 24: USC
  • Mar. 7: Arizona

The non-conference segment of their schedule is undeniably challenging. A trip to Hawaii for the Maui Invitational will serve as a baptism of fire for a young team with eight new players, including seven freshmen. Their journey kicks off against Marquette, projected to be a top-five team.

If they emerge victorious, the Bruins will face another formidable foe in Kansas, with Purdue, Tennessee, Gonzaga, and Syracuse on the other side of the bracket, all expected to be ranked in the top 25.

UCLA then heads east to clash with Villanova, a tough matchup both in terms of distance and opposition. Maryland, likely to be a ranked opponent, seeks redemption at Pauley Pavilion after last year’s home-court embarrassment against a more experienced Bruins squad.

Between the Villanova and Maryland games, UCLA travels to Atlanta to face Ohio State, another Big Ten contender aiming for a deep March run. Mick Cronin’s ability to navigate this grueling schedule will be closely watched as the team integrates fresh talent, European imports, and a revamped rotation.

In the Pac-12 portion of their schedule, the Bruins face heavyweight opponents Arizona, Oregon, and USC twice, fortunately avoiding a trip to Colorado in Boulder. However, the conference appears to be even stronger this year, with teams like Arizona State, Stanford, and Washington potentially exceeding expectations.

Though the road ahead is challenging, Mick Cronin’s track record of improving UCLA teams each year offers hope. The team will likely encounter bumps along the way as they gel and adapt, but with their talent and Cronin’s coaching prowess, the Bruins may emerge as a formidable force come March.
