UCLA’s Young Star Dante Moore Shines as Quarterback

Logan Loya Praises the Quarterback Trio in Postgame Interview

In a thrilling game at their home arena last Saturday, the UCLA Bruins, led by 18-year-old true freshman Dante Moore, delivered a commanding performance against the San Diego State University Aztecs. With Moore, a five-star recruit from Martin Luther King Jr. High School in Detroit, taking the helm as the starting quarterback, the Bruins showcased their prowess on the field.

During a postgame discussion with reporters following the triumph, senior Bruins wide receiver Logan Loya expressed his admiration for all three quarterbacks. Loya’s appreciation for Moore, Week 1 starter Ethan Garbers, and Week 2 backup Colin Schlee underscores the depth and talent of the Bruins’ quarterback lineup.

In their victory against SDSU, Loya, a 5’11” Garden Grove native, made an impact with four receptions, accumulating an impressive total of 77 yards. Notably, he averaged 19.3 yards per carry and secured one touchdown, contributing significantly to the Bruins’ success.

Dante Moore, the standout true freshman, demonstrated his exceptional skills on Saturday. Moore completed 17 of his 27 pass attempts, amassing an impressive 290 yards through the air with a completion rate of 63%. His remarkable performance included three touchdown passes, earning him a quarterback rating of 81.3. Despite his relative inexperience, the 6’3″, 210-pound rookie displayed remarkable poise, avoiding any interceptions, although he did face two sacks. Ben Bolch of The Los Angeles Times noted that Moore’s five touchdowns in his first two games outshine all other true freshman quarterbacks, and he ranks second in passing yards among this talented group, with a total of 433 yards.

Colin Schlee, another junior quarterback, saw limited action in the game, completing 1 of his 2 pass attempts for a total of six yards. While his role was minor in this particular matchup, the Bruins’ depth at the quarterback position promises an exciting season ahead.

“Playing with any of these quarterbacks, they’re all elite. We have three elite guys,” Loya opined. “I mean you saw Schlee out there, he can run it [like] crazy. Super athletic, I don’t think people knew that before today. Getting [the ball] from any of the three of them, I love it.”

In summary, UCLA’s freshman sensation, Dante Moore, has quickly made a name for himself as a formidable quarterback. Logan Loya’s praise for the trio of quarterbacks highlights the team’s promising future. As the season unfolds, fans can anticipate more thrilling performances from this talented squad.
