Michigan Transfer WR Andrel Anthony Jr. Earns UCLA Football Offer

The Bruins are pursuing the former three-star recruit who broke out against Michigan State in 2021.

With their offense in need of reinforcements, the Bruins are looking to add another Wolverine to the roster.

Former Michigan wide receiver Andrel Anthony Jr. has received an offer from UCLA, the pass-catcher announced Thursday afternoon on Twitter. Andrel entered the transfer portal Wednesday after spending two seasons with the Wolverines.

Anthony has also received offers from Oklahoma, Miami (FL), Pitt, South Carolina, Cal, Penn State, Texas A&M, West Virginia, Purdue, Notre Dame, Arizona, Michigan State and Auburn.

The last time UCLA picked up a transfer from Michigan was running back Zach Charbonnet, who rushed for 1,359 yards in 10 games this season en route to multiple All-American honors.

Anthony did not approach that kind of production in Ann Arbor, but the East Lansing (MI) product did have a breakout freshman season in 2021.

Appearing in 11 games, Anthony racked up 248 yards and three touchdowns on 12 receptions. Anthony went for 155 yards and two touchdowns on six catches against Michigan State – his hometown team – that season.

Anthony only recorded 80 yards and a touchdown on seven catches in 2022, but he did manage to appear in all 14 of Michigan’s contests. He was limited with an ankle injury towards the end of the season, which could partially account for the decrease in production.

The Bruins have made a habit of adding receivers out of the portal over the past few offseasons. Ahead of 2021, they brought in Texas A&M’s Kam Brown, then they added Duke’s Jake Bobo and UCF’s Titus Mokiao-Atimalala before the 2022 campaign.

Anthony, who comes in at 6-foot-2 and 190 pounds, would be a much-needed addition, given that Bobo is out of eligibility and Kazmeir Allen declared for the NFL Draft in December. Brown will enter 2023 as UCLA’s top returning pass-catcher, and he only had 24 catches last fall.

Brown and Josiah Norwood will be playing their final years of college ball this coming season, so adding options with multiple years of eligibility remaining is likely a priority for the staff. Four-star freshmen Jeremiah McClure and Grant Gray are set to join the receivers room, but it remains to be seen how quickly they will be able to make an impact for the Bruins.
