For Los Angeles Rams cornerback Jalen Ramsey “a change of scenery could provide a spark,” per one NFL insider.
Los Angeles Rams cornerback Jalen Ramsey made it to the Pro Bowl once again this past season, his sixth straight year being honored.
However, before being named as an injury replacement for Philadelphia Eagles cornerback Darius Slay due to Super Bowl obligations, Ramsey was set to miss out on Pro Bowl honors for the first time since his rookie season in what was a bit of a down year for the three-time All-Pro.
And given the fact that Ramsey’s name continues to be heavily involved in trade rumors this offseason, this all could’ve been the result of the star playmaker showing a lack of focus during the season, according to insider reports from The Athletic.
“According to one evaluator, Ramsey is still a physically elite cornerback, but he might not have been as focused on the field last season,” the site said. “A change of scenery could provide a spark.”
Still, with a player as talented as Ramsey, he started 17 games and finished with four interceptions for the second straight season. He also had two forced fumbles, a fumble recovery and recorded his first-career sack before finishing the season with two of them.
This “down year” would be many players’ career highlights. But when watching Rams game – most of which were disappointing losses – Ramsey didn’t always look like himself, getting beat in coverage with ease and often missing tackles.
It’s possible he mentally checked out in the midst of LA’s abysmal season and saw the writing on the wall, or he was just a step slower than usual. Either way, his reported lack of focus could be playing a part in Ramsey potentially getting traded in a blockbuster deal this offseason.
