As the NFL wrapped up its virtual draft on Saturday, both LA teams added much-needed depth. The Chargers, in particular, had a fantastic day in terms of filling positions of need.
The Chargers waited patiently through the second day of the draft and were rewarded with 4 solid draftees on day 3. They tightened up the offense with 2 wide receivers and a back up running back while also drafting a safety for their secondary. The Rams, had a bit of a questionable draft, as they drafted in positions of depth while they still have other holes to fill. We’ll have to wait and see if the front office has a plan to round out the team during the remainder of the offseason.
The Rams did manage to sign some defensive help, thanks in part to Jared Goff. He permitted the team to restructure his contract to free up more than $7 million in cap space. This allowed them to officially sign Leonard Floyd and A’Shawn Robinson. Both players had been announced weeks ago, but had yet to officially sign since the team did not have the space to do so. These two players should help fortify the defense, but there is still work to do for LA.
In baseball news, we received encouraging updates on Vin Scully’s health after a scary fall earlier this week. He is now home and resting, but the entire Sportsworld has come together to offer him well wishes. The Dodgers also announced their commitment to paying their employees through the end of May. While many are suffering through this shutdown, organizations like the Dodgers are doing their part to ensure they take care of their own.
Finally, the NBA announced on Saturday that they would begin opening team facilities very soon. This would be reserved for areas where strict restrictions were starting to be lifted and is aimed at getting players ready to resume the season. Unfortunately for our LA teams, the county’s stay at home orders are still in effect. This means that they are not yet eligible to return to their facilities, but that could change very soon. This process brings us one step closer to returning to basketball.
