South Bay Lakers Acquire Returning Player Rights for Wing Chaundee Brown Jr. and Draft Pick
In a strategic move aimed at enhancing their on-court capabilities, the Los Angeles Lakers’ G League affiliate, the South Bay Lakers, have recently completed a significant transaction. This development reinforces their commitment to player growth and the pursuit of excellence.
According to a recent announcement by the Austin Spurs, the NBAGL affiliate of the San Antonio Spurs, the South Bay Lakers have undertaken a roster adjustment involving player rights. The returning player rights for guard Javante McCoy will be exchanged to re-obtain the returning player rights for Chaundee Brown Jr., a versatile wing player. This transaction also includes the acquisition of a second-round G League draft pick for the 2024 season.
Chaundee Brown Jr., who is now 24 years old, initially became a part of the Los Angeles Lakers organization through a two-way contract. His journey began after going undrafted from the University of Michigan in 2021. In the 2021-22 season, Brown contributed his skills to five NBA games, playing for both the Lakers and the Atlanta Hawks. He showcased his abilities by averaging 6.2 points per game, displaying shooting splits of .313/.333/.833. Additionally, he averaged 3.2 rebounds and 0.8 assists per game during his appearances.
During his debut professional season with the South Bay Lakers, Brown stood out with impressive statistics across 30 games. He averaged 15.2 points, 4.8 rebounds, 1.6 assists, and 0.6 steals per game. His talent and dedication to the game were further demonstrated during his time with the Austin Spurs, where he maintained an average of 14.4 points, 5.4 rebounds, 2.0 assists, and 0.6 steals per game.
Since his initial stint with the Lakers organization, Chaundee Brown Jr. has expanded his basketball journey by competing for professional teams in Puerto Rico, Canada, and France. In light of this recent transaction, should Brown Jr. aspire to return to the NBA, he will be required to begin his journey with the South Bay Lakers, reaffirming their status as a vital component of the NBA pipeline for emerging talent.
