Lakers News: LeBron James Reacts To Damian Lillard’s Record Scoring Night

Dame Dolla scored 71 points against a terrible Rockets team.

On Sunday night, Portland Trail Blazers All-Star point guard Damian Lillard had a completely insane offensive outpouring against the Houston Rockets, scoring a career-best 71 points while shooting 22-of-38 from the floor (57.9%) and a perfect 14-of-14 from long range. He also chipped in six assists and six rebounds.

Oh, and Portland won, of course, 131-114. Granted, they beat a 13-47 team fully entrenched in a Tank-O-Rama For Wembanyama, but still. Lillard is enjoying a comeback season after being waylaid for much of 2021-22. He’s averaging a career-most 32.3 points on .472/.381/.919 shooting splits, 7.2 assists, and 0.8 steals a game.

Check out full highlights from Lillard’s historic night:

It was the second time this season a player has scored 71 points, but the first in regulation. Cleveland Cavaliers All-Star shooting guard Donovan Mitchell required a bonus overtime period to get his (still incredibly impressive) 71 this year.

Superstar Los Angeles Lakers forward LeBron James took to social media to express, quite succinctly, how he felt about Lillard’s performance.

That watch Emoji icon of course is a reference to “Dame Time,” the exciting moment when the 6’2″ point guard takes over a game with insanely clutch circus shots.

James and Anthony Davis, of course, previously tried to convince Lillard to request a trade out of Portland in the summer of 2021, before ultimately settling for Russell Westbrook. We all know how that worked out.

Lillard’s Blazers are, for now, directly above the Lakers in the Western Conference standings, as the 11th seed to LA’s 12th seed.
