Lakers News: LeBron James Provides Less-Than-Promising Update On Foot

James appeared to injure his right foot in LA’s Dallas win Sunday.

Los Angeles Lakers All-Star forward LeBron James seemed to injure his right foot in the midst of a third quarter rally against the Dallas Mavericks Sunday. After laying on the floor clutching his foot for many minutes, the 6’9″ vet would later finish the game.

After the contest, an eventual 111-108 Lakers win, James appeared to downplay the injury in his postgame comments to reporters.

“It’s been better. That’s for sure. But definitely wasn’t going to go to the locker room and not finish the game out tonight,” James noted. “The momentum that we had, I felt like we could steal one after being down. We’ll monitor it in the next couple days, see how it feels and go from there.”

The Lakers next play a critical back-to-back set of bouts tomorrow and Wednesday. First on Tuesday, LA will suit up against a Memphis Grizzlies team that, despite holding the West’s overall second-best record at 36-23, has looked pretty darn mortal lately.

On Wednesday, the Lakers will play the 28-32 Oklahoma City Thunder, currently the 13th seed in the conference (LA is the 12th seed). Though the Thunder did beat LA during a record-setting night for LeBron James the last time the two teams met, that was the final game for a truly unbalanced team fraught with guard-heavy, non-shooting lineups. This is a new LA club that might be able to handle OKC even without LBJ, but it will certainly need Anthony Davis to step up.

A return for D’Angelo Russell, who rolled his ankle against the Golden State Warriors last Thursday, would sure help, too.

If anything, hopefully James is available for the Memphis game but is sat on Wednesday.
