Lakers: ESPN Insider Loves Fit Of New Players For Purple And Gold

How good can this new unit be?

In a recent segment following the NBA trade deadline, 10-year NBA pro-turned-expert ESPN analyst Tim Legler discussed his feelings regarding your Los Angeles Lakers, who have brought in six new players (five of whom are already rotational mainstays, and three of whom are starters).

“I think that made themselves substantially better,” Legler opined. “And I’m not trying to take a shot at Russell Westbrook at all, in fact I defended him the last couple days. because I think too much was laid at his feet. He was put in an impossible situation… It was a bad fit for him, so I’m not putting as much of this on him. But the truth is the guys they got back fit better around LeBron [James] and [Anthony Davis]. And you’re talking about a couple of guys in [D’Angelo] Russell and [Malik] Beasley, I mean those guys on average take 16 threes between the two of them.”

LA has gone 1-2 since the trade deadline on February 9th, but that tally is deceptive, given that the Lakers played a game the very night of the deadline (why games are even played at the deadline is beyond me), and they’ve only had their full compliment of assets old and new for exactly one contest, a 120-102 win over the New Orleans Pelicans last week.

The revamped Lakers will get their next chance to improve on their 27-32 record tonight, against the visiting Golden State Warriors.
