Lakers: How Insider Sees Healthy LA’s Minutes Shaking Out

Los Angeles has 10 players who could conceivably fit in its rotation.

Your new-look Los Angeles Lakers boast 10 players who could legitimately stake a claim to real rotation minutes during the final 23 contests of the 2022-23 NBA season, as LA strives to qualify for the play-in tournament and playoffs.

Mike Trudell of Lakers.com recently chatted with Jorge Sedano of ESPN about LA’s new problem, which frankly seems like a pretty good problem to have for a team that was trotting out three-guard lineups of Dennis Schröder, Patrick Beverley and Russell Westbrook pre-trade deadline. That’s some nightmare fuel right there.

“So there are 10 players that I think are worthy of the minutes,” Trudell said. “It’s mixing and matching them. Depends on kind of your preferences and frankly probably depends on what LeBron to some degree wants too, because he’s still the guy that’s going to know, when they’re out there, which ones he wants on the court at the same time, which ones are going to operate best around him.”

“If I’m a coach I’m always interested in that information because he’s like the super-computer of the court,” Trudell added.

As the Western Conference’s 13th seed with a 27-32 record for now, the Lakers will need to pick up every possible win they can get, so here’s hoping the team susses out its lineups soon.

During LA’s last game before the All-Star break, a 120-102 victory over the New Orleans Pelicans (without Zion Williamson), we got a sneak peak of the reinvigorated team in its healthiest form thus far. Head coach Darvin Ham did in fact employ a 10-man rotation during the team’s meaningful minutes. Beyond starters D’Angelo Russell, Malik Beasley, LeBron James, Jarred Vanderbilt and Anthony Davis, Ham played Schröder, Austin Reaves, Troy Brown Jr., Rui Hachimura and Mo Bamba 15+ minutes apiece off the bench.
