Lakers News: Warriors To Be Without Key Starter For Thursday’s Clash Against LA

A possible big break for the Lake Show.

Your Los Angeles Lakers may be getting a bit of a break tomorrow night when they host the visiting Golden State Warriors at Crypto.com Arena. Starting small forward Andrew Wiggins may not be available to suit up. All-Star point guard Stephen Curry, of course, remains sidelined, too, with his partially torn left leg ligaments.

NBC Sports Bay Area’s Dalton Johnson reveals that Wiggins was not in attendance at the team’s practice on Tuesday, and per what Johnson hears from sources on the ground, Wiggins is not expected to suit up Thursday. Per Johnson, Wiggins is still dealing with a murky “personal matter.”

A season after being named to his first-ever All-Star team and emerging as the second-best player on a championship squad in 2022, the 27-year-old has dealt with a string of injuries and now personal issues this season. In his 37 available game, he’s been his typically productive self as a critical off-ball scoring option and perimeter defender.

Wiggins, the team’s fourth-leading scorer, is averaging 17.1 points on .473/.396/.611 shooting splits, five rebounds, 2.3 assists, 1.2 steals and 0.8 blocks a night. At 29-29 Golden State is no longer the behemoth it once was, primarily due to its lack of depth beyond its top six players. This is key for a 27-32 LA team that needs every win it can possibly muster to stay in the playoff hunt.
