Lakers News: Stephen A. Smith Projects New-Look LA’s Ceiling

ESPN’s First Take commentator believes LA could win a playoff series.

The new-look Lakers looked sensational in their Wednesday night win against the New Orleans Pelicans. It was the first time every player on the roster was available, and they did not disappoint.

They will now take that momentum into the All-Star break and build from it when they return for their matchup against the Golden State Warriors on Feb. 23.

The revamped LA Lakers have some people changing their perspective on LA, including ESPN analyst Stephen A Smith, who believes LA will make the playoffs and win a series, but nothing else.

The Los Angeles Lakers are currently the No. 13 seed in the Western Conference, which is two games out of the No. 10 spot and three and a half games out of the No. 6 spot, currently owned by the Minnesota Timberwolves.

LA has 23 games remaining and will be going into the All-Star break sitting at 27-32.

Luck may be on the purple and gold’s side; according to tankathon.com, the Lakers have the seventh easiest schedule remaining as only eight of their second-half opponents have a record at .500 or above.

The front office improved the roster; now it’s all on Darvin Ham, LeBron James, Anthony Davis, and company to gel together and peak at the right time.

Things seem to be on their side, but to have any shot at the playoffs, the Lakers must get a winning streak going. If Wednesday’s game is any indicator of that, LA will be just fine.
