The star big man had a big night on Wednesday.
Los Angeles Lakers star center Anthony Davis was clearly a big beneficiary of LA’s 30th starting lineup of the season. From what we saw on Wednesday, we certainly hope this one sticks.
Los Angeles head coach Darvin Ham demoted Dennis Schröder, shifted new addition D’Angelo Russell to point guard, promoted another new arrival, Malik Beasley, to shooting guard, moved LeBron James to small forward, elevated Jarred Vanderbilt to power forward, and kept Anthony Davis at center.
Davis spoke with various reporters after the game about the club’s new first five.
“I think [Jarred Vanderbilt] did a good job on [Brandon Ingram], just his length, his presence,” Davis said. “[D’Angelo Russell], we know what he can do — play-make, score. Beas — shooting the ball. So it’s a different look… And it worked for us tonight.”
“Having D-Lo and Beas out there spacing the floor, and ‘Bron. And Vando just knows how to play, rebounding [helps create openings for Davis],” AD said. “He’s cutting, getting behind the defense, we’re able to exploit the defenses with his ability to move around the basket and get lobs, and he can get little dump-offs as well. So [a] few things that we figured out tonight, how we want to play, and a couple actions that we want to get to.”
Davis finished with 28 points on 13-of-17 shooting from the field, 10 rebounds, and two blocks. Not bad for a night’s work.
