Lakers: LeBron James Reflects On NBA Scoring Record On Social Media

King James reigns supreme as the league’s new Scoring King.

Last Tuesday, Los Angeles Lakers All-Star forward LeBron James broke former Lakers All-Star center Kareem Abdul-Jabbar’s all-time regular season scoring record (38,387 points) in an eventual loss against the Oklahoma City Thunder.

“Last week messed around and got a triple….. I mean a Scoring Record!” James wrote. “Man what!!! This is still not hitting me yet. So surreal!! Wow wow wow man!! To all my fans who captured that moment there inside Crypto Arena that night( YOU’RE AMAZING & THANK YOU) and to all my fans all over the United States and The World( YOU’RE AMAZING & THANK YOU). The journey continues!! #ThekidfromAKRON🤴🏾 #SFG🚀 #JamesGang👑”

His “messed around got a triple…..” line was a reference to a lyric in Ice Cube’s immortal cut “Today Was A Good Day”, built off The Isley Brothers’ “Footsteps in the Dark”:

“Get me on the court and I’m trouble

Last week, messed around and got a triple double.”

Classic.

Beyond James setting a new benchmark in regular season points, that game proved to be a momentous moment in a lot of ways for Los Angeles. It marked the last time several key rotation players would don the purple and gold, from Russell Westbrook to Patrick Beverley to Thomas Bryant. The tension between Westbrook and James, in particular, was pretty apparent throughout the evening, as when Westbrook did not appear to be in too celebratory a mood after James hit the record-breaking shot, a tough one-legged fadeaway jumper over OKC center Kenrich Williams.
