Lakers: 4 Teams Emerge as Potential Suitors for Russell Westbrook

Brodie has eyes set on next home.

Russell Westbrook’s name has easily been one of the hottest in recent NBA talks following his trade from the Lakers and a potential buyout from his new team, the Utah Jazz. The veteran point guard has garnered interest from various contenders and teams trying to make the Play-In Tournament.

Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN joined NBA Countdown and reported that Utah is allowing Westbrook to speak to the Chicago Bulls, LA Clippers, Washington Wizards, and Miami Heat.

Westbrook meeting with the Clippers was foreseen as forwards Paul George and Marcus Morris were vouching heavy for the team to take a chance on him. They are in need of an experienced point guard after parting ways with John Wall and Reggie Jackson and believe he took more blame for the Lakers’ failures than he deserved.

The former MVP has also been linked to the Chicago Bulls recently, seeing that his former coach Billy Donovan is there. Wojnarowski, himself, came out earlier in the week and revealed that the Bulls highly prioritize adding Westbrook if he becomes available.

Miami has been known to take in players that are past their prime and help prolong their careers. However, their experiment with Kyle Lowry has not been ideal.

Finally, the Wizards could look to welcome back the nine-time All-Star that last suited up for them in the 2020-2021 season. This was arguably the last time Westbrook was seen in a positive light by fans as he thrived next to Bradley Beal. He would be re-joining a team that now features the likes of former Laker Kyle Kuzma.

For various reasons over the past two seasons, Westbrook in the purple and gold did not work out. The front office had no choice but to deal him following a rough final week, but the experienced ball-handler still has value in the league. These four teams are all currently looking to win to a certain degree and view Westbrook as a piece that can contribute.
