Lakers Rumors: Possible LA Free Agent Target Signs With Klutch Sports

This two-way wing would be a key addition for LA.

Jerami Grant has been having one of the best seasons of his career this year averaging around 21 points and 4 assists while also guarding some of the best players on opposing teams each night. He has become an important piece on a Portland Trailblazers team and decided to sign with Klutch Sports agency ahead of a summer where he will be an unrestricted free agent.

Klutch Sports is ran by LeBron James’ childhood friend and agent, Rich Paul. There are currently five players on the Los Angeles Lakers that are represented by Clutch (James, Anthony Davis, Lonnie Walker, Troy Brown Jr, and Scottie Pippin Jr).

After some calculated moves before this season’s trade deadline, the Lakers will now head into the offseason with more cap space and flexibility. Only four players on the team are officially guaranteed a spot next year and seeing a player like Grant sign with Klutch does beg the question: Will the Lakers make a run for him?

Grant has played a key role in every team he’s been on dating back to his time with the Oklahoma City Thunder and the Denver Nuggets. He has thrived when playing alongside other shot creators and can focus on other intangibles such as off-ball movement and cuts to the rim.

By bringing in Grant, the Lakers would have a bonafide defensive stopper and take a lot of that pressure off of their stars. He is just 28 years old and entering the prime years of his career.

Prior to the trade deadline, the Blazers offered Grant a 4-year extension worth $112 million. He turned it down and can renegotiate with the franchise come this offseason.

As we’ve seen particularly with the Anthony Davis situation, Klutch ties do run very deep. Do not be surprised if Rob Plink lands some meetings with Grant in the summer Lakers fans.
