Lakers: How Saturday MVP Dennis Schröder Willed LA To Beat Warriors In 4th Quarter

Schröder shone bright on in a prime time Saturday matchup.

The Los Angeles Lakers hit the court Saturday night in clean alternate jerseys and some new faces. Fans were very excited to see what D’Angelo Russell, Jared Vanderbilt, and Malik Beasley would bring but it was a certain German point guard who willed the team to victory.

Dennis Schröder finished with a team-high 26 points to go with 3 assists and 3 rebounds as the Lakers snapped their 3-game losing streak. They held off a 29-point performance from Jordan Poole to beat the Golden State Warriors 109-103.

Schröder took over in the 4th quarter when star Anthony Davis was struggling to get going. He attacked the rim in a frenzy and found new teammates Russell and Vanderbilt off ball. The veteran point guard highlighted the team’s play over his individual statistics in a postgame interview.

“We play together, compete together, and have fun. The ball was moving side to side and we did a great job,” said Schröder. “The new guys coming in didn’t know all the plays but they competed. I’m just glad we got the win.”

Schröder is someone the Lakers are looking to for leadership as they get the younger players adjusted to their system. The 29-year-old guard has been with LA before during the 2020-2021 season and knows what it’s like playing alongside franchise pieces Davis and LeBron James.

Chemistry is something that Schröder believes will form fast between the squad and he complimented his teammates on their experience.

“They play high-level basketball, all of them have been to the playoffs,” said Schroder.

The Lakers will certainly have to continue that level of play in order to make the postseason as they capture a victory heading into a crucial stretch of games.
