Lakers: Anthony Davis Raves About Russell Westbrook’s Late Game Execution

The Lakers’ sixth man was pivotal in the team’s victory against the New York Knicks.

The Los Angeles Lakers were able to hold down the New York Knicks on Tuesday with their 129-123 overtime victory.

Anthony Davis returned to the starting lineup at Madison Swuare Garden and was a key piece in Los Angeles’ win. The eight-time NBA All-Star ended the night with 27 points and 9 rebounds.

Following the game, Davis talked to Lakers reporter Mike Trudell to discuss the team’s strong execution:

“We got to a pick-and-roll with Russ that we liked and we just made plays and we also were getting stops…We gave up a lot of offensive rebounds, which made the game pretty close for us but down the stretch, we just defended our butts off and were able to come out with the win.”

Though Davis and LeBron James carried a lot of the weight in regulation with their combined 55 points, Russell Westbrook also shined in overtime. Davis had high praise for his teammate:

“Three-headed monster. It was a team effort, a team win,” Davis said. “Russ came ready to play. As a professional, he’s always ready. He’s always staying ready, he’s always got his mind in the game. He was able to come into the fourth quarter and make some plays, especially in the overtime, to kind of lead us to the win, making the right plays. Big time to Russ.”

It’s been crucial for teammates like Westbrook to step up as Davis slowly comes back into full form and extends his minutes.

Other players including Dennis Schroder, Troy Brown Jr., and newcomer Rui Hachimura added value, and displayed their grit in this particular matchup.

As the team steadily fights to move up in the rankings, they’ll look to build upon this win as they take on the Indiana Pacers next on Thursday.
