Lakers News: Longtime Rival Appears To Concede LeBron James Closing In On GOAT Status

A longtime thorn in the side of Los Angeles Lakers All-Star power forward LeBron James appears to be impressed with The Chosen One’s longevity.

Hall of Fame small forward Paul Pierce, most famous for his 15 seasons spent with Lakers fans’ least favorite franchise, the Boston Celtics, took to Twitter following James’s 47-point, 11-rebound, nine-assist birthday bash in a 130-121 win against the Atlanta Hawks Friday.

For Pierce, now a broadcaster with Showtime, to commend James’s epic endurance is no small feat. The 10-time All-Star, an Inglewood native, knows a thing or two about longevity. Pierce played for 19 seasons himself, and appeared in two NBA Finals, winning against Kobe Bryant, Pau Gasol, Lamar Odom, and the rest of your Los Angeles Lakers in 2008. That team would have its revenge two years later, when it took down Boston in a seven-game slugfest that, while not pretty, did bring LA its 16th NBA championship.

Pierce also squared off directly against LeBron’s Cavaliers and Miami Heat teams several times in the postseason, perhaps most notably in an epic seven-game 2008 dual in the Eastern Conference Semifinals, won by Boston en route to their title, and in the seven-game 2012 Eastern Conference Finals series that led to an eventual Heat championship, James’s first of four with his three franchises.
