NBA News: Former Laker Shannon Brown Arrested After Shooting At Georgia Home

Former Los Angeles Laker Shannon Brown, 34, was arrested last week after he was accused of shooting a rifle at two people who were supposedly looking at homes for sale in the Atlanta, Georgia suburban area.

Brown faces charges of aggravated assault from the incident last Saturday at his home in the area of Tyrone. He was released from custody after he posted bond on Monday.

From the Atlanta Journal report, Brown informed officers that he believed the couple was breaking into his home.

The couple had told police that they had been looking to homes for sale in the area and noticed a “for sale” sign in front of Brown’s home. They then told investigators that the main front door was open and they had entered. As the couple opened the door they yelled out to let anyone that could hear them that they are touring the home.

According to police, the couple “stated that they heard a voice acknowledging them and once inside, at some point, Mr. Brown came from upstairs with a rifle and detained them.” Tyrone Police Lt. Philip Nelson also stated that “shortly after, he let them go, and they stated he fired his rifle towards them as they were leaving.”

Lt. Philip Nelson also stated that no one was injured as investigators did find one empty shell casing at the scene.

The home of Shannon Brown is up for sale in Fayette County, police said.

Shannon Brown was part of the Los Angeles Lakers championships teams alongside Kobe Bryant in 2009 and 2010. Brown was drafted in 2006 by the Cleveland Cavaliers in the first round of the NBA Draft. He retired after playing 8 years in the NBA with an average 7.6 points per game
