Lakers fans are anxious to see their team back on the court soon. After all, Los Angeles was in the middle of their best season since they won the NBA Final back in 2010 before COVID-19 shut down the entire sports world.
While Lakers’ coach Frank Vogel is anxious to get his team back out there, he also understands that there are bigger things at stake in the world.
It would be a huge disappointment if we aren’t able to play. However, we get it, and this is bigger than basketball. And us getting back on the court is not the most important thing for the world right now. Hopefully we have that chance, and if we’re not able to, it would be a big disappointment.
In a call with media, Vogel broke down the events that ultimately led to the NBA being shut down. The teams were well aware of the possibility of games being suspended, but like many, Vogel was not expecting it to happen so fast. The NBA was suspended in March after Rudy Gobert tested positive for the coronavirus.
Vogel is just as ready as the entire Lakers fan base to get things back on track, but he isn’t taking extra moments at home for granted.
“It’s a time of year where we typically are not able to see our families very much,” he said. “Enjoying that aspect of it.”
The NBA led the way in setting a precedent for dealing with COVID-19, and many sports will look to them to get things going again.
