Clayton Kershaw’s Future with the Dodgers: A Legendary Career at a Crossroads

The 2023 Dodgers season leaves fans wondering about Clayton Kershaw's next move.

One of the intriguing subplots of the 2023 Dodgers season revolves around the future of veteran pitcher Clayton Kershaw. As the year draws to a close, fans are eagerly awaiting news of Kershaw’s plans, especially since he has briefly mentioned retirement and maintained flexibility with one-year contracts in LA.

Kershaw himself has admitted uncertainty about his 2024 plans, emphasizing his focus on winning in the current season. Nevertheless, the question of his next move looms large over the organization.

During a recent conversation with MLB insiders Jon Heyman and Joel Sherman, Manager Dave Roberts offered his insights into what he believes Kershaw might decide for the upcoming season.

While there has been speculation about Kershaw potentially leaving the Dodgers to play for his hometown Texas Rangers, the significance of concluding his illustrious career in LA is not lost on him. Kershaw, a true baseball historian, values the idea of finishing his legendary journey with a single franchise.

If this indeed turns out to be Kershaw’s final season, he can take pride in his performance. In the 2023 campaign, he posted an impressive ERA of 2.46 and a WHIP of 1.06, marking the 13th season out of the last 15 where he finished with an ERA below 3.00.

“I don’t know if he’s coming back,” Roberts said. “I don’t know. I know he loves being a Dodger, so if he does come back to pitch I would assume it would be with the Dodgers. That’s my honest answer.”
