Dodgers News: Chris Taylor Says He’s Ready for Shortstop, Roberts Just Didn’t Know That

The veteran explained how he was already preparing with the throwing program.

After news broke this week that Gavin Lux tore his ACL and will be out for the entire 2023 season, Dave Roberts and the team have to now think about ways to pivot and fill this void.

Of the players who are capable of stepping into the shortstop position, Chris Taylor has voiced that he is more than ready to take on this role in Lux’s absence.

Taylor spoke to media at Camelback Ranch on Tuesday to share how he has been ramping up for this new position:

“I’ve been doing a throwing program, I’m not sure if Doc knows. But I’ve been doing stuff and taking groundballs and throwing from the infield and the outfield. So, I was trying to anticipate something happening so I was prepared.”

Taylor has had experience playing multiple positions from second base, third base, and center field, but as he prepares for a different position, he will make sure to focus on taking ground balls at shortstop. With Lux out, CT3 will now be in the infield a lot more than he planned this upcoming season.

“Yeah, I think the plan was mainly left and center so now I’ll be playing some short and third too, I believe.”

Roberts previously voiced that veteran Miguel Rojas can also help out at short this season along with Taylor. Having these two players readily available allows the team to rely on these in house options. As the Dodgers prepare for the 2023 season with this new hurdle, Taylor’s preparations at shortstop will surely be valuable.
