Dodgers News: Mookie Betts Staying Optimistic on Gavin Lux Injury

He’s holding out hope on his teammate being okay.

Dodgers starting shortstop Gavin Lux left Monday’s game early with an apparent right knee injury. Dave Roberts later said that Lux heard something pop in his knee, but was holding out hope that it wouldn’t be a serious injury.

Before Roberts spoke, Mookie Betts was leaving the stadium early, and was stopped by the media on the way out. He was asked about his initial reaction to the injury, and tried to stay positive. Here’s a part of what he said, per Dodgers Nation’s Doug McKain on Twitter:

“Any time you’re holding a knee, that’s always a bad situation,” Betts said. “But, hopefully he’s alright. Like I said, I don’t want to jump to any conclusions.”

The Lux injury definitely didn’t look good, and it’s never positive when you hear a pop. However, the best-case scenario feels like him being out for a couple months, which would at least get him back for a good portion of the season.

In the meantime, the Dodgers will have to alter their plans at shortstop, and already added a minor leaguer to provide some depth at the position.

We should know more about the injury tomorrow, but for now, we can try to remain optimistic that it’ll be okay.
