Rams News: Jared Goff to Start Against the Green Bay Packers

With the Rams set to visit the Green Bay Packer for their division-round game, head coach Sean McVay didn’t wait until right before kickoff to release his starting quarterback. With the injury to John Wolford during last week’s win against the Seattle Seahawks, Wolford hadn’t practiced at all this week. That led to McVay making the call to officially rule him out and name Jared Goff the starting QB.

Goff is still three weeks off from having surgery on his thumb but proved last week that he was healthy enough to get the job done. While he didn’t finish the game with an unbelievable stat line, he pushed through to help keep Los Angeles’ season alive. He finished completing 9 of his 19 pass attempts for 155 passing yards and one touchdown. You could tell that Goff was still experiencing some discomfort after some throws, but the hope is he’ll be good enough to go come Saturday.

With Wolford out, Blake Bortles will be activated to slide into the backup QB role. Mcvay raised questions last week after not having Bortles active to back Wolford with Goff just recently undergoing surgery. This time around he’ll be ready to enter the game in the event that Goff is unable to finish.

In other news, Aaron Donald and Cooper Kupp who both also suffered injuries against the Seahawks are said to be healthy enough to play. Losing both of them would’ve been a huge blow to the Rams as they seek to take down the No. 1 seed in the NFC.
