Dodgers News: Roberts was Hoping for a Quiet Ending to Red Sox Sandal

Dave Roberts was definitely happy that the Red Sox investigation came to a close before the start of the regular season.

After acquiring Mookie Betts and David Price from Boston in the offseason, there was a new excitement in the air. Still, there were mixed feelings among some due to the sign-stealing scandal from the year Boston won the title. Robert was definitely afraid of potential blowback affecting his locker room in 2020. He joined the Bleav in Dodgers Podcast recently and opened up on the topic.

“I guess to be honest with you, after the Mookie/David trade, I was hoping that nothing really came out. I think that it’s not going to change history, and going forward, I didn’t want it to bleed into ’20.”

Luckily for Dave Roberts and the Dodgers, the investigation did not find any evidence of cheating during the playoffs. No Red Sox players were found responsible for any wrongdoing, as the type of sign stealing that was being done was more old school and not technology-driven.

After losing back to back years in the World Series, it would have been a serious blow to the trust in the newest Dodgers if it was determined that they beat LA by cheating. Roberts is happy to move forward with a clean slate and without worrying about the past. With the clubhouse dynamic safe, for the time being, the focus is once again on winning it all next season.
