MLB News: Former Astros Player Taunts Mike Fiers

You know it’s a rough time in sports when all we have to talk about is a Tweet that send the internet into a frenzy. But that’s exactly what happened yesterday when former Astros catcher Evan Gattis tweeted a picture of a cup with Evan Gattis’ face on it.

The image is below and depicts Fiers in his Athletics uniform. On it are the words ‘Snitches Get Stitches’, referring to Fiers whistleblowing this past offseason that implicated the 2017 Astros in a cheating scandal that rocked baseball.

Gattis played in thirteen games for the Astros during the 2017 World Series in which Houston took down Los Angeles in seven games. Gattis slashed .300/.533/.300 during that World Series, with just ten at-bats.

Fiers is widely regarded as a sort of hero in Major League Baseball for calling his former team out, and himself out in the process. Fiers cited guilt about what they had done to harm the game and players involved as a reason for coming forward.

Gattis has since tweeted that he was joking when he posted the image and that he had no ill-will towards Fiers. Gattis did not play in the major leagues in 2019 and announced that he was no longer pursuing opportunities to play.
