MLB News: The Giants Are Looking Into Signing Yasiel Puig

This is a very weird time to be a baseball fan in general. And if you’re a Dodgers fan, it’s about to get even weirder. The San Francisco Giants are reported to be interested in signing outfielder Yasiel Puig on a free-agent contract. Yes, the San Francisco Giants that we all love to hate may want to sign the wild horse.

The rivalry between the Giants and Dodgers is one of the best in sports, and fams love to hate the other team. Farhan Zaidi, the Giants’ President of Baseball Operations, is now a big part of that rivalry. After spending four years as the Dodgers’ general manager building the team up, Zaidi left for San Francisco. Puig was not signed or traded under his management, but he certainly spent a lot of time playing in those years Zaidi had the reins.

Puig himself has been at the center of some of the most heated moments between the Dodgers and Giants. The constant battle between himself and Madison Bumgarner is legendary at this point. He also shoved Giants’ catcher Nick Hundley and started a fight back in 2018.

For the Giants to take a player that once sparked life back into a Dodgers’ fanbase would admittedly feel wrong. But the Giants have floundered since they last won the World Series in 2014. The Dodgers continue to take the National League West, and that does not appear to be coming to an end any time soon. The signings of Hunter Pence and Billy Hamilton make the Puig signing a little less likely. But Hamilton is notoriously unproductive at the plate, and Puig could easily replace him.

Puig slashed .267/.327/.458 with 24 home runs and 84 RBI’s last season for the Cincinnati Reds and Cleveland Indians,
