MLB may have put all games and Opening Day on hold, but that is not stopping players. In the wake of games been shut down for the foreseeable future, Trevor Bauer and a few big leaguers are trying to get together to start a “sandlot” game.

The idea was encouraged by fellow pitcher David Carpenter, who suggested it to Bauer on Twitter. Bauer immediately picked up the idea and ran with it, garnering hundreds of comments in a matter of less than an hour. It is unclear though in MLB would actually allow these players to come together and play.
The responses from MLB players poured in, as several players want to play badly. The Pirates’ Cole Tucker chimed in, simply saying “I want in”. Professional pitcher Tim Melville also threw his hat into the proverbial sandlot ring. There were plenty of other players quick to reinforce the idea, including Brandon Finnegan, Jordan Luplow, Quin Cotton, and plenty of minor leaguers.
It’s unclear if contractually the league would allow anything like this. Players throughout the season show up at softball and baseball events, but you don’t see players in the games. There is likely language in player’s contract prohibiting this sort of activity, but we will have to wait on the league’s response.
