Dodgers: New Reliever Blake Treinen to Make Cactus League Debut

When the Dodgers signed Blake Treinen to a one-year $10 million deal this offseason, the hope was he could return to his 2018 form. The team has slowed his transition into spring games to get his mechanics corrected, but we finally have a date for a debut.

Treinen will appear for one inning with the Dodgers on Saturday against the Rockies. In his marvelous 2018 campaign, Treinen posted a 0.78 earned run average to go along with 100 strikeouts in 80 innings of work. In terms of dominance, he was lights out in 2018.

Then the wheels fell off for Treinen in 2019. His earned run average sky-rocketed to 4.91 and his walk rate more than doubled. The Dodgers recognized that he wouldn’t need much of a buildup since he only needed to come into games for an inning, hence the delay in debut.

Treinen took that time with the Dodgers to correct some things mechanically in his delivery, so it will be interesting to see him get back out there. He throws a mix of four different pitches, but it is his sinker and slider that has made him great in the past.
