Those of you who have been Dodgers fans for more than a few years will recognize the familiar number 16 walking around camp this week. Andre Ethier was one of Los Angeles’ most clutch performers through the years, and retiring hasn’t stopped him from sticking around.

Ethier, an Arizona native, has not been shy about coming around the Dodgers’ camp this year. He and Austin Barnes both attended Arizona State University, though Barnes was there much more recently.
Ethier was spotted earlier this week walking around with another retired Dodgers, Chase Utley. Utley is now a part of the SportsNetLA crew, but he was in uniform with Ethier this week.

Ethier was instrumental in the Dodgers’ success from 2006 all the way until 2017. He put up All-Star caliber numbers form 2008 to 2011, hitting a combined .289 with 85 home runs and 327 runs driven in during that span.
Ethier had several career-defining moments with Los Angeles, but his hit streak may have been the most exciting. Ethier went 30 straight games with a base hit during the 2011 season, falling shy of Joe Dimaggio’s record.

More notably, Ethier earned the nickname “Captain Clutch” recording 11 walk-offs from 2008 to 2010. The next closest player to him during that span only had 4 walk-offs.
Forever a fan-favorite, Dodgers fans have been ecstatic seeing Andre Ethier around camp after his official retirement in 2018.
